Airborne radar usually has multi-function such as meteorological detect, collision avoidance, fire control, even target search, multi-target tracking and distinguish. To accomplish these functions, radar data processing has to analysis echo information timely, then transform to display control. In helicopter environment, equipment has strict requirements in power consumption, weight, volume and anti-vibration etc. So the performance of data processing has to be excellent to handle data analysis requirement and fit to adverse airborne environment. In this case, we have few choice of data processing platform’s architect. In all of framework of processors, PowerPC has outstanding ability in embedded operation. Its excellent performance, low power consumption and low heat dissipation ability fit the task of use.The thesis is originated from a model task book of airborne collision avoidance radar. This radar require data processing platform to use single board miniaturization structure to complete task of radar data processing. Platform should be design for low power consumption and miniaturization. The task require data processing platform has outstanding operation ability to handle distinguish algorithm of power line and obstacles and has ability of scalability to handle digital map superposition algorithm of collision avoidance radar in next generation. Combined with the above requirements, we choose high performance PowerPC MPC8536 of IBM Co. to design a universal embedded radar data processing platform. The platform have interface of Ethernet, ARINC 429, USB, PCI-E and RS422 etc. We can use it to communicate with other radar equipment using embedded Linux operation system.The starting point of this thesis is engineering. We use theory of high speed PCB design and PowerPC plus Linux structure to descript design progress of platform and give out the quantitative evaluation of performance. In respect of hardware design, we divided the function of data processing platform, elaborate the criterion of layout and wiring in high speed signal design, in combination with structure and head dissipation requirement, finished the hardware schematic diagram and PCB design using MENTOR software. In respect of software design, we finished the whole progress of embedded Linux transplantation, including building cross compilation environment, U-boot transplantation, operation system transplantation and equipment drive to write.We usually use multi DSP or single DSP multi core framework to build radar data processing platform in domestic. The framework has limitations such as hard to program or hard to migrate. The design of radar data processing platform based on PowerPC, simplified the progress of data processing algorithm migration, provide a convenient operate environment for programmer, shorted the development cycle. The research of this platform, provide a new method of complicate data processing algorithm in researching and laying the groundwork for the multi core PowerPC platform in researching.
