Colors of fabrics have the nature of subjectivity based on the subjective reflection ofobservers in a certain circumstance eventually. Many complex factors, such as fibrous materials, yarn texture, woven fabric structure and so forth, have a great influence on the subjective colorof fabrics due to the presentation on the texture of fabrics intuitively, which brings about visualchanges of observers. Feature extraction has been one of the most popular research focuses fortexture studying. The main methods include the method of statistical analysis, method ofstructured analysis, model method and frequency-domain method. Based on the domestic andforeign research, we came up with a novel method of extracting fabric textures combining FFTwith Gabor filter and testified its effectiveness. Moreover, we discussed the subjective color offabrics and analyzed the relation between surface textures of fabrics and subjective colors.Themain content and conclusion are as follows:(1)After the further study of texture concept, texture classification, the extraction andcharacterization methods, we proposed a new textural feature extraction method of fabricscombining FFT with Gabor filter and testified its effectiveness. Through the FFT to abstract theangular distribution and radial distribution as the angle and frequency, we designed two bestGabor filters to respectively convolute with original image, and then achieved the purpose ofextracting texture feature successfully. Moreover, it greatly reduces the number of the filter andthe amount of calculation, and makes the feature extraction more targeted, so it is better than thetraditional methods. In addition, we defined the characteristics of the texture energy coefficientto represent the fabric texture, and verified the validity(2)We discussed quantization method of subjective color of fabrics basing on knowing colorforming process, its property and CIE standard colorimetric system, CIELAB color space andcolor difference formulas of CIELAB. A professional colorist arrays the performance ofsubjective colors of the fabric from good to bad and makes the good one to be standard. We got objective array of color performance from good to bad by measuring the L*a*b values and colordensity values though Color iTM7-desktop spectrophotometric instrument and calculatingluminosity equation, chromatic aberration and density difference of colors. After somecomprehensive comparisons, we found it is strongly consistent for the three groups to array andkeeps the same as the subjective color performance evaluation from the professional colorist. Therefore, we made the datum measured from Color iTM7-desktop spectrophotometricinstrument to be subjective color datum.(3)Energy values of fabric surface textures have a negative correlation with subjectivelightness with linear relation. The textural energy value increases, the lightness value decreases. When fabric densities are the same, average subjective brightness of plain weave fabrics isminimum and satin fabric is maximum. The average subject brightness of twill fabrics isbetween them. People will feel that satin fabric is the brightest and plain weave fabric is darkest. When the texture structures are the same, the density of yarns is less while the subjectivebrightness is brighter. That is to say, the thinner the fabric arrays are, the brighter the subjectivebrightness is and the brighter individuals will feel. The rule is the most obvious in plain weavefabrics and obvious in satin fabrics but not that obvious in twill fabrics.(4)Energy values of fabric surface textures have a negative correlation with subjectivesaturation with linear relation. As textural values decrease, subjective saturation increasesbasically and subjective color performance is dominant. When the texture structures are the same, the density of yarns is less while the subjective saturation is increasing. That is to say, the tighterthe fabric arrays are the lower the subjective saturation are and the color performance is lessobvious.(5)For fabrics with the same hue, the surface texture changes is not significant impact onthe subjective hue. Therefore, it can be ignored.Through discussing the relation between the characteristics of the texture energy coefficientand subjective brightness, subjective saturation, subjective hue, this paper proves the relationbetween surface textures and subjective color, it shows that this method is effective and feasible.
