The concept of "cloud" has been hyped up by IT giants like IBM, Oracle, Google ever since the name was introduced to the public. The more it is discussed, the more definition it has. Every Cloud service provider links the interpretation of Cloud with their own selling points. "Cloud Database (CloudDB)" also does not have a clear definition. Today, a widely accepted definition for CloudDB is distributed database (DDB). Benefits that brought by distributed database include:flexible architecture; easy to adapt to the distributed management and control; cost-effectiveness; high reliability and availability; topical application response speed; scalability, good integration with existing systems.NoSQL is where data storage going in the current computer architecture. NoSQL is a broader definition for non-relational data storage. It disrupted the relational database and ACID theory that was dominatingly acknowledged and applied. NoSQL data storage does not require a fixed table structure or connection function. Therefore, it boasts unparallel performance of data storage and access compared with relational database. Its superior performance enables it to process high volume of data and run on an inexpensive PC server cluster. It features simple operation and large number of open source software.Cloud DB based on NoSQL cloud database is able to meet evolving need of enterprise information management. It is a new technology integrating into main stream technology. The benefit of being cost-effective makes it the best option for enterprises. The model can be used to create private cloud for branch organizations united as well as hybrid cloud (a mixture of both public and private cloud) for organizations with limited resources or loose structure like public institutions and industrial associations. This paper examines MongoDB database, a typical representative of NoSQL. The main points of the study are as follows:The paper starts with discussion on definition and characteristics of Cloud Computing, discovering challenges brought to data management by Cloud Computing. It presents NoSQL in the cloud from concept, characteristics and the theories perspective. It covers the design principle and features of main stream NoSQL and conducts detailed analysis by comparing NoSQL with traditional relational database in terms of data mode, system architecture, readability and writability and scalability. It further explores existing drawbacks for enterprise asset management system and the possibility of setting up MongoDB to solve these problems. It concludes with the design and validation of enterprise asset management system of high reliability and scalability based on MongoDB.
