Since the advent of the diode-pumped solid-state lasers in 1980 s,a revolution has occurred in laser technology field. Because of its advantages of simplicity, long serving life and designing reliability, and its characteristics of high output power, high pulse energy and ultrashort pulse width, diode-pumped solid-state lasers play an unprecedented role in the fields of medical treatment, communication, printing, scientific research, material processing, military, promoting the development of both traditional industries and emerging industries.This study takes the Nd:SYSO crystal as research object, which was produced by Czochralski method in Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences, using a laser of diode-pumped through an optical fiber coupling system, then obtains the variable relationships between the parameters of output power, pulse width, repetition frequency, pulse energy and absorbed pump power.Here are the main contents of this paper:1.Summarizing the developmental process of the laser, introducing the development of solid-state lasers, which is the focus in photoelectric field at present, and listed some common Nd3+ doped laser crystals.2.Realizing the continuous wave of the diode pumped Nd:SYSO laser and and studying the output characteristics of pulse under the condition of different transmission rate of the output mirrors.3.Using acoustooptic modulators to accomplish the output of diode-pumped actively Q-switched Nd:SYSO laser, the output of the optical wavelength were 1075.2nm and 1078.2nm.When the pump power was 8.7 W, modulation frequency were detected of 5 kHz, 10 kHz and 15 kHz respectively, with the maximum average output power were 556 mW, 626 mW and 720 mW and the conversion efficiency were 53.1%, 46.8% and 61.2% from continuous wave to pulses.When the modulation frequency was 5 kHz and the pump power was 8.7 W, the most narrow pulse width was 58 ns, and the corresponding single pulse energy was 112 μJ。4.Using a Cr4+:YAG as the saturable absorber, a passively Q-switched Nd:SYSO laser outputted pulse-width of 1075.2 nm and 1078.2 nm.When the transmittance of the output mirror was 5% and the pump power was 6.7 W,the maximum output power was realized, which was843 mW, and the light to light conversion efficiency and the oblique efficiency were 12.5% and13% respectively, also, the narrow pulse width was 26 ns.5.Using the Cr4+:YAG as the saturable absorber, the Matlab programming and the V cavity to demostrate the QML of Nd:SYSO laser and to achieve the QML pulse output.
