As the most fertile place for solar power, desert provides a unique advantage resource conditions for the promotion and application of solar power. At the same time, The solar PV technology is applied to the desert robot, and robot measure desert environment and collect data from desert environment. This not only can solve the robot work or life issues during moving, but also improve the efficiency of the desert robot. This paper presents a method that using solar PV power generation for charging desert robot which provides an effective endurance for the desert robots working and moving in the desert robot that can do better to data collection, and indirectly improve the measurement of the desert people’s environmental data and the accuracy of the study.According desert robot foldable Photovoltaic Generation system requirements, the whole system is divided into three subsystems, namely solar energy panel driving system, pseudo single-axis solar tracking system and photo-electric conversion charging system.The system master controller uses Silicon Labs MCU C8051f020, and GPS module uses SIM908 chips. When the whole system is working, upon receipt of low-energy signal from solar battery, solar energy panel driving system gradually expanded the solar panel on both sides, and then began to track the sun. When pseudo single-axis solar tracking system is working, master controller reads the current date, time and latitude on the GPS module through the serial port. Input the date, time and latitude as the independent variable input, and calculate the current position of the sun. At last, convert the required signal into a deflection angle control signal, and output to the servo motor driver. And then, the achievement of tracking the sun’s effect can be made by controlling the servo motor rotating corresponding angle. Solar energy received which is changed into electrical energy can be collected and stored in batteries, through photo-electric conversion charging system. In order to design foldable Photovoltaic System on desert robot, this paper design and realize solar panels to track the sun as well as the charge control. The main content consist of the structural design of folding photovoltaic battery, establishment and simulation of tracking algorithm model of the sun and charge control the overall solar battery.
