Founded in 2008, the "Shanghai Book Review" inherited the excellent gene from DF Daily, and the news qualities in new era, forming a new cultural supplement with unique qualities. This article talks about it how to found, how to choose writers, how to positioning readers, and how to form the content characteristics. Targeted on journals in 2008-2013, through a systematic analysis of the content and text, we found that:As for aesthetic design, cover and interior layout features relatively fixed and distinctive, but it also fine-tuned according to the cover story; cover story picture tends to choose newsmakers and calligraphy classes and painting classes based cartoons, which are lively and natural kind, full of visual impact and appeal; the text puts attention on cultural arts content, inclined to adopt the vision and expertise of academic books, theories of rational debate discussion and comments; the supplement also talk about hot events and social relationship, which leads the trend of life and promotes a new life concept; the classification and statistics graphically show the comments books discipline ratios and the causes of the proportion. Under horizontal comprising with New York Book Reviews and London Book Reviews, I intend to clarify the similarities and differences between the three pairs and the unique characteristics of Shanghai Book Review. With the above analysis results, the article will try to get conclusions and give suggestions to Chinese publishing industry and book reviews from the aspects of editing, topics choosing standard, book reviews team building, the transformation from traditional to digital.
