Digital camera with the high-speed interface becomes the first choice for many machine vision systems. Because of high-speed data transmission sophisticated computer technology, it can make full use of existing computer resources, and the use of serial high-speed data transmission making the traditional image capture card to be eliminated and the connection cable simplified. While it is obtaining a high transfer rate, the costs are greatly reduced. This paper analyzes the basic framework of industrial cameras, and has a comparison of several master chip used in mainstream embedded systems. Also this paper gives a brief introduction to the basic techniques of industrial cameras to achieve, and the image sensor, the external storage device and the external interface chip selection. Finally a 1.3 million CMOS image sensor VITA-1300 of ONSEMI is chosen as the front of the system, and Spartan-6 FPGA as this system’s control core, and select USB3.0 as the output interface. On the basis of analysis of the design, paper also implements both the hardware and software system design. The main work of the high-speed serial industrial camera system based on FPGA includes:1) The use of the Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA as the core of the hardware of high-performance image acquisition and processing system, and design the FPGA circuit design related, DDR2 circuit design, CMOS and peripheral circuit and power circuit design, complete FPGA core board and CMOS board PCB design.2) The use of the language of Verilog and system tools ISE for writing and debugging programs. The main features include data reception, protocol analysis, data caching, CFA interpolation, data space conversion, graphic correction algorithms. FPGA shows excellent field editing capabilities and characteristics of the pipeline processing.3) Test this system on hardware and software. The system can capture images at the resolution of 1280* 1024 at the frame rate up to 150 frames per second.
