With the popularity of the Internet, there has been a wide variety of networks in real life. People’s work, study and life are increasingly inseparable from the network. As the infrastructure resource of network, IP address is lack of effective management. Although traditional DHCP can realize a simple management of IP address assignment function, but there are still many shortcomings in terms of safety and validity.Based on the above requirements, this thesis proposes an optimization scheme of using the client classification method to improve the DHCP server. The design goal of the scheme is to retain the original DHCP functions and to realize the verification and classification of client on the DHCP at the same time. Then it can distribute appropriate network resource for DHCP according to the classification result so as to provide a convenient, efficient and reasonable IP addresses management solution for network administrators. This thesis researches how to improve the traditional DHCP solutions based on large-scale firewall software system developed by H3C. Specifically, the main contents of this thesis are as follows:(1) Introduced the background and significance of the proposed scheme, analyzed the research status at home and abroad.(2) Systematically introduced the basic knowledge of DHCP technology.(3) Researched how to improve the traditional DHCP solutions according to the characteristics of the DHCP protocol. This thesis proposes a method to classify clients and the concept of customization options group. Then the two modules are combined with each other to improve the rationality of network resource allocation.(4) The realization of each module of the scheme is described. For the client classification module, DHCP server analyzed the request packet sent by the client, and extracted the relevant information of the option. After that, DHCP server compared the information in turn according to the rules configured by the administrator, and then classified the clients. In order to reduce the workload of the administrator, this system managed the network resources assigned to the clients through the TLV format.(5) Presented the system test cases and results. Test results show that the realized system achieves the requirements of the design goal.
