According to the fast detection problem of cotton foreign fibers, the online fast detection and measurement method of cotton foreign fibers was studied, and has realized the fast detection and measurement of cotton foreign fibers. Computer vision technology, image processing technology and pattern recognition technique were used in this paper by taking the online detection equipment of cotton foreign fibers and the foreign fibers as the research object. The research includes:(1) Design of the online detection equipment of cotton foreign fibers. The design in this paper was the third generation online detection equipment of cotton foreign fibers based on the flow transportation system, which mainly includes lint cotton opening device, cotton delivery pipe, fan, white LED Source, EUV Source, color CCD camera, monochrome CCD camera, Industrial Computer, cotton collection box, frequency converter etc. The design has improved the disturbance problem of the second generation equipment, in which the monochrome CCD camera and the color CCD camera were placed side by side grabbed the cotton image in vertical direction separately. It adopted the "U" type pipeline design, and the monochrome CCD camera and the color CCD camera which were placed at the both sides of the "U" type pipeline grabbed the cotton image in horizontal direction separately. Meanwhile three frequency converters were used to control the fan, the opening roll and the conveyer belt with nails, and it can realize the many speed regulation until the best state.(2) Study on the image processing method of cotton foreign fibers. The color CCD camera and the monochrome CCD camera separately grabbed the color image and the monochrome image and the images were processed separately at the same time. According to the monochrome images, for it is gray image, it can be segmented directly by using single threshold method which was fast and accurate. According to the color images, using the chromaticity difference between foreign fibers and cotton background, it was segmented after the enhancement processing using the subtraction operation between each two channel images. Finally remove the noise and the fine impurities by limiting the area threshold. The results show that the algorithm this paper used can realize the fast and accurate segmentation to the cotton foreign fiber images.(3) The design of the content fast testing software system of cotton foreign fibers. Design and implement the content fast testing software system of cotton foreign fibers. Mainly include cotton flow show, record of operation, parameter setting, image acquisition, image training, image detection, report generation modules. Realize the functions of online save images, online detection, training images and testing etc. A lot of experiments made in this system show that the content fast testing system of cotton foreign fibers that this paper studied was correct and effective.(4) Study on the content statistical method of cotton foreign fibers. The content statistical method of cotton foreign fibers based on the quantity statistics was proposed on the basis of classification and identification of foreign fibers in this study and the kinds and the quantity of each sample of foreign fibers were counted. Build reasonable evaluation index of the content of foreign fibers, and overcome the severe shortages of the current standard which used the weight index. Put forward some reasonable amendment suggestions to the current national standard, makes the evaluation of the content of foreign fibers used from weight index to the more reasonable kinds and quantity indexes step by step.The test results showed that the cotton foreign fiber online detection equipment this paper studied was stable and reliable. The image processing algorithm was fast and accurate. The software detection system was complete function and convenient operation. The cotton foreign fiber detection rate reached more than 91%.
