As the optical fiber communication technology is developing toward the direction ofhigh-speed, huge-capacity, long-range, optical transmission network and local network hasexpanded rapidly, the network is more and more complex, while there is a higher demandon optical fiber network’s secure, stable and efficient operation. If the cables incommunication lines are damaged, broken, etc, this case will inevitably make a greatimpact on communication, how to effectively maintenance and manage the cable becomemore and more prominent. In order to guarantee the communication can operate stably andreliably, meet the requirements of reliable communication, effective monitoring about fiberoptic cable has become an important and very urgent and practical issues.OTDR is an important tool for traditional cable monitoring, using conventionalhand-held OTDR for fiber-optic cables monitoring needs a lot of labor and equipmentresource, this manner is also inefficient and difficult to identify potential failures, what’smore, this manner needs the worker have higher OTDR monitoring experience, and theresponse time of failure is too long.Because of the shortcomings presented above, this paper proposes a cable monitoringsystem, OCMS, this system is a distributed network applications combined with softwareand hardware, and more software-based. The software is developed by C#, the database isSQL Server, using computer and communication technology realize the communicationbetween client and server, as well as the communication between server and OTDRmodule. Shaping a optical fiber monitoring system which has testing, alarming, positioningand information management all functions. On one hand, this system can grasp the runningcondition and discover the degradation trend timely, on the other hand, when the fiber iscut, this system can locate the failure point accurately and quickly, shorter the positioningtime.The biggest innovation of this paper is the analysis of the test signal, this system cannot only test the cable line, but also eliminate the noise. With the help of wavelet transformtheory, the threshold denoising method and modulus maximum denoising method are researched, so proposed a new method which is the combination of the two method,through the new method, the noise on OTDR testing curve can be effectively eliminatedand the real information can be completely retained, thus improve the test accuracy, andthen present the test results and alarm information on the user interface, all of this will beconducive to the maintenance personnel process the fault timely.
