Wireless multimedia sensor network (WMSN) is a new type of sensor network, its node canproduce multimedia data information, such as the audio, video, images, etc. These multimedia sensornodes have the ability of computingļ¼Œstorage and communication, and also with directionality, itsperception range is a fan-shaped. With collaboration, nodes can deal with tasks such as perception, acquisition, processing and transmission of multimedia data information, etc.Wireless multimedia sensor network is an ad-hoc network, in order to get the best performanceof the system, sensor node localization problem and the coverage problem need to be solved. Due tocost reasons, most of the sensor nodes do not have positioning module. To solve this problem, thispaper design a distributed node localization algorithm MAPIT, based on the classic APIT localizationalgorithm and make some improvement by using the three rounds of computing strategy, it canlocalize nodes in the edge or sparse area very quickly on the basis of not increasing the positioningerror. Simulation results show that MAPIT outperformances APIT in terms of positioning speed andpositional accuracy.Wireless multimedia sensor network usually deploy large number of nodes by randomlydeployment, so after deployment, it will produce the region coverage imbalance problem. To solvethis problem, this paper proposes a directed node perceptual model and a network coverage model, and designs a novel calculation algorithm of network coverage area.Based on the new coverage model,we propose an improved centralized GAOP coverage optimization algorithm based on geneticalgorithm. The GAOP algorithm judge individualā€™s fitness through regional overlap area, saves andmultiplies good genes by substituting the best individuals of offsprings for parents. Simulation showsthat the GAOP is influenced by the genetic algorithm parameters such as generation number, nodenumber, etc. GAOP algorithm can effectively optimize the node coverage situation, minimizing theoverlap area.
