Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) is well known by the lower deployment cost, larger network coverage, higher fault tolerance of network, and dynamic self-organization and self-configuration. Due to these advantages, access technology of wireless mesh networks has gradually become a flexible, efficient, and reliable multi-hop communi-cation solution for wireless coverage. Furthermore the low-cost Internet access make it a new wireless networking technology with wide application prospect. With the rapid development of Internet and wireless multimedia technology, people have higher demand for quality of service (QoS) in wireless networks, e-specially in the wireless mesh networks that provide a entrance to wireless data business.A major reason that QoS is not guaranteed is the shortage of current net-work resources which often causes the network traffic congestion. Although the traditional methods, such as increasing the the signal strength, redundant coding, replacement routing and so on can increase channel capacity, it would cost the avail-able resources of the network, aggravate the network congestion and even result in paralysis of the entire network. In the other words, traditional methods is no longer applicable for network congestion. To this end, we propose new schemes to properly manage and allocate network resources among nodes in WMNs to improve network throughput. The main contributions of this paper are summarized as follows:1. In order to increase the channel capacity of WMNs, we equip the existing wireless mesh-router with multiple radio transceivers and multiple channels. And ensure the neighboring wireless mesh nodes communicate simultaneously by making multiple radio transceivers operating on different channels. Then we propose a multi-radio multi-channel joint distribution strategy based on non-cooperative game theory. More specific, according to the traffic load, wireless mesh nodes dy-namically adjust the allocation of the radio transceivers and channels to achieve interference-free transmission of data streams.2. We employ the cross-layer collaboration technology to manage and distribute multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh network resources to improve network transfer rate. Through the cross-layer collaboration in joint optimization among the transmission power, the channel assignment and the transfer rates of the physical layer, data link layer and transmission control layer of wireless mesh nodes, throughput of WMNs is greatly improved.3. Considering the multi-path routing characteristics of the wireless mesh network, we present a cross-layer congestion control scheme based on the game theory. The scheme exchange information by the transport control layer and network layer. When the network layer performs the multi-path routing selection, the transport layer could adjust the size of congestion window basing to the con-gestion state of links at the network layer. Hence, the scheme can effectively reduce the transmission delay and improve the throughput of the wireless mesh networks.
