This paper describes the background and significance of compact pulsed power source, summarizes its research status, and mainly focuses on the research progress of compact quasi-square wave output pulsed power source. On this basis, we propose a kind of compact mixed energy storage pulsed power source based on the pulse forming network and the opening switch. In this kind of pulsed power source, the pulse forming network is used for forming quasi-square wave pulse, and the opening switch is used for boosting the voltage to finally get a high-power quasi-square wave pulse output on the load. We use the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation to reveal the circuit working principle, and reveal the relation between the major components parameters and the final output pulse. Besides, the validation experiments we carried out confirm the feasibility of this kind of pulse power source. The experiment results have certain significance for the working principle comprehension and structural design of this kind of quasi-square wave mixed energy storage pulse power source. This paper mainly includes the following aspects:1The working principle of this kind of quasi-square wave mixed energy storage pulse power source has been analyzedThe working principle of this kind quasi-square wave pulse power source based on the pulse forming network and opening switch has been theoretical analyzed, which is to use the pulse forming network to form a quasi-square wave pulse, and use the opening switch and the inductance to boost the voltage on the load, so that a final high-power quasi-square wave pulse output can be obtained on the load. Theoretical analysis presents the output waveform of the quasi-square wave pulse power source and the voltage boost.2The design parameters of this kind of pulse power source have been optimizedWe establish the Pspice simulation model of this kind of quasi-square wave pulse power source based on the resistivity-specific action integral model of the silver wire. The main design parameters of the pulse power source have been optimized by Pspice simulation.3The preliminary structure design of this kind of pulse power source has been presentedBased on the theoretical analysis and design parameters optimization, the preliminary compact design of the mixed energy storage pulsed power source is presented, The field distortion closing switch、 the electric explosion opening switch and pulse forming network are designed.4This kind of mixed energy storage pulse power source experimental device has been built up and a preliminary experimental study has been carried out.The field distortion closing switch, the electric explosion opening switch、the pulse forming network、 the water resistance load、the resistance voltage divider and the current coil have been designed and manufactured. The experimental device has been also built up. The preliminary experimental study shows that when the1μF initial storage capacitor charging voltage is32kV, the voltage obtained on the10Ω load is about83kV in amplitude,279ns in FWHM,172ns in90%flat, indicating that this kind of pulse power source is feasible.
