With the rapid development of wireless and networking technology nowadays,demand for indoor positioning is increasing both in daily life and in production. Butindoor positioning is difficult and hard to improve due to the complex indoorenvironment. Among all the location technologies, for it’s advantages in non-lineidentification and low cost, the RFID technology has became one of the most preferredtechnologies for indoor location.Firstly, on the basis of the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication)-distancemodel, the paper proposed the passive RFID distance-power model. And then proposed aPassive RFID location algorithm based on the distance-power model. Simulation andexperimental results show that the distance-power model is working well and effectivelyimproved the accuracy of ranging.Secondly, in order to improve the accuracy of distance-power based locationalgorithm in boundary, the paper introduced an active RFID system location algorithm-reference tags tracking algorithm, and discussed its application in passive RFID system,then combined the two algorithms together and formed a new algorithm that running wellin indoor environment and have higher accuracy. Testing of the three algorithms showedthat the combined algorithmic has the highest accuracy and running well in a variety ofconditions.Finally, the paper analyzed the importance of the Omni-directional antenna in indoorlocation algorithm. An Omni-directional RFID antenna was designed of the passiveRFID indoor location requirements. Simulation results showed that the antenna hasexcellent Omni-directional character; both read distance and direction character meet therequirements of indoor location.
