With the development of cloud computing, the traditional computerarchitecture is facing increasingly great challenges. The emergence ofreconfigurable systems has opened up a new road for computer architecture. In current Internet application environment, we need to save a large numberof files on website (WEB) server, and the quantity can reach tens ofmillions or more. A single file is relatively small, usually in kilobytes KBlevel, which leads to the actual web server performance bottlenecks landedon the file system. Therefore, how to design a more efficient file system tomanage such a huge number of small files and improve file systemperformance is an urgent problem. This FPGA-based systems applicationsin the cloud computing environment requires a file system which canefficiently process massive small files. So here we propose a FPGA-basedsmall file system named FPGASmallFS.This article first explains the demand of current cloud computingapplication, and then propose a new file system. By simplifying thestructure and dynamic disk volume management, this new file systemimproves the speed of file system and disk space utilization. In addition, with the help of FPGA acceleration, this system improves mount speed anddisk throughput rate. Next, this article introduces some key technologiesrequired of the system, and describe the design of this file system in detail. Finally this article verify the effectiveness of every efforts by testing andcomparing with other file system.
