Nowadays, the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) technique has been appliedsuccessfully and widely for various environmental monitoring systems. Manystudies have proved that the application of WSN in agricultural environmentinformation monitoring is an alternative way to replace the conventional men forcebased method, especially in the precision agriculture (PA) field. As the developmentof Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the scalar sensing data and multimediavideo/audio data improve the efficiency of PA applications. So the WirelessMultimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN) becomes attractive. Nevertheless, theliteratures about both of the technologies are still scarce. Some problems, such aslack of real practical WMSN platform, high cost especially when working onpractical projects or experiments in large scale WMSN systems, still exist.The WMSN emulation platform architecture has been proposed in this paperand aims to implement an extendable emulation platform for the cross-level sensornetwork simulation. The related emulation and simulation work is based on thehardware emulator AVRORA and the network simulator COOJA. They bothprovide a suite of interfaces which can be used. The emulating hardware is theATMega128RFA1which is used in the Milive board. We build the related MCUemulation, platform emulation and radio emulation. Then we used the emulatedhardware which is integrated in COOJA to do run the network simulation. AMilveLink based on the DBus technique will be implemented to control thesimulation. Meanwhile, the MiliveLink is operated with the command line tool. AGUI tool is designed and implemented to make the operation convenient.This emulation platform can be handled in the cross-level network sensorsimulation. It provides the robustness and extendability. With some perfection inthe future, it can also be considered to be a test-bed for the scientific research andexperiments.
