Underwater Sensor Network(UWSN) is a data-centric network, and UWSN usesacoustic communication with the characteristics of long delay, high bandwidth, highbit error, high energy-consumption, and the battery of node is hard to recharge inUWSN. The topology of UWSN is highly dynamic and the network connectivity ispoor, which bring about great challenges to protocol design of UWSN. Existingprotocols can not be applied directly to UWSN, or with lower efficiency. The fivelayer protocol stack of TCP/IP is widely used in the Internet which is address-centric.However, with overmuch head fields and layers,TCP/IP is unsuitable for UWSN.The thesis analyzes the characteristics of UWSN and the limitations of traditionalprotocol architecture applied in UWSN. Research shows that high network efficiencybased on traditional five-layer model can be realized by cross-layer design in UWSNenvironment of complicated, changeable channel and limited energy, but overmuchcross-layer design will bring about the complexity hard to overcome, so we proposeMicro-ANP communication protocol architecture. The protocols in Micro-ANP aredivided into three layers: the application layer, network-transport layer and thephysical layer, and the traditional transport layer, network layer and the data linklayer of TCP/IP are merged into the network-transport layer, which simplifies theprotocol stack of UWSN, decreases unnecessary address field, the protocol overhead, improves communication efficiency and resources utilization.Network simulation tools play an important role in the study of networkbehavior and network protocols. At present the mainstream network simulationtools include OPNET, Matlab, QualNet and NS2, etc. The existing wireless sensornetwork protocols and underwater sensor network protocols are mostly carried outin NS2. NS2is an open source, free network simulation tool, which is based ondiscrete event driven and object-oriented. UCONN developed Aqua-Sim based onNS2studio for UWSN simulation. Therefore, Micro-ANP is realized based on NS2and Aqua-sim. In the thesis, we realized Level-Based Adaptive Geo-routing(LB-AGR) and State-based CDMA Protocol, and transplanted Static routing, BroadcastMac, slotted-fama, aloha and other protocol to the Micro-ANPcommunication architecture platform. Simulations show that the Micro-ANPprotocol structure can work steadily. Compared with traditional five-layerarchitecture, Micro-ANP prolongs network lifetime, improves energy efficiencyand network throughput.
