Due to the Ultra-wideband radar system’s wide bandwidth and high range resolution, the Ultra-wideband radar widely used in ground penetrating radar and ultra-wideband life detection radar areas. However, some problems like signal attenuation and close detection range, also caused by the great bandwidth. So, one of the key issues in ultra-bandwidth radar detection is how to improve the working range while keep the same performance like detection resolution and other performance indicators. This issue is based on the advantages of ultra-bandwidth life detection radar including domestic and overseas, considering the contradiction of the detection depth and the detection range. Analyzed and compared the pulse compression technology and pulse stretching technology from ultra-bandwidth radar signal models. We proposed a method of utilizing long and short combined pulses to solve the detection blind zone problem of ultra-bandwidth radar systems. Then we deduced the modulation formula method which can ensure the longest detection range of short pulse cover the detection blind zone after modulated. It can reduce the detection blind zone of the ultra-bandwidth pulse compression radar but remain the detection resolution simultaneously in this way. The feasibility of this method has been verified through simulation. The proposed method can save more trapped people lives in maximum extent through the realization of high resolution ratio, long distance and small blind zone radar life detection. The works been done like follows:(1) Realized the pulse compression simulation of signals like LFM signal, binary-phase coded signal, analyzed and compared the results.(2) Aiming at the problem of increasing blind zone brought by the pulse compression application in the ultra-bandwidth pulse radar systems, proposed a new method to solve the blind zone problem of ultra-bandwidth pulse compression radar systems with the combined pulses. Verified the feasibility of this method by simulation in Matlab.
