After nearly ten years of development, the throughput of wireless network is higher and higher, it basically meets the needs of people’s daily work and life. However, the development of battery technology is relatively backward, more and more researchers begin to pay close attention to the energy-saving of network system. IEEE802.11n wireless network as the current mainstream technology, its frame aggregation mechanism capably transmit a large packet at a time, so as to improve the transmission rate of the MAC layer. But its aggregation strategy doesn’t consider the energy saving problem, thus causes high energy consumption. Hence, under the premise of ensuring network speed, how to design energy-efficient aggregation strategies to reduce energy consumption of IEEE802.11n has become a research hotspot.To solve the problem that IEEE802.11n frame aggregation without considering energy saving, this thesis firstly set up an energy consumption model for IEEE802.11n joint considering the transmission opportunity (TXOP) and the frame aggregation mechanism, and then proposes an energy saving frame aggregation algorithm based on this model. This thesis provides several novel contributions as follows: (1) In-depth analyzing and summarizing the domestic and foreign relevant research on energy saving wireless network, mainly focuses on the IEEE802.1In frame aggregation mechanism, and discusses the performance of frame aggregation in terms energy efficiency;(2) We propose a novel energy consumption model for IEEE802.11n, which overcomes the shortcomings of without considering frame aggregation of existing energy model, then analyze the energy efficiency of IEEE802.11n in different aggregated parameter, and summarize the aggregation strategy that maximize the energy efficiency IEEE802.11n from the analysis;(3) According to the proposed model and conclusions that work (2) raised, we put forward an energy saving frame aggregation algorithm, ESFA. ESFA changes the size of aggregated frame dynamically according to the frame error rate so as to ensure the data transmission and retransmissions completed during the TXOP and reduce energy consumption of channel contention;(4) Designing and implement ESFA algorithm on the NS2simulation platform.The research achievement and the algorithm that proposed in this thesis provide a valuable theory reference to prolong the service life of wireless terminal and reduce the energy consumption of wireless network.
