With the rapid development of information technology, network technology andmultimedia technology and the traditional printed literature of library services can not meetthe diverse needs of readers; libraries have sought to develop innovation in the museum spacelayout and type of service at home and abroad. Makerspace is an emerging service model inthe field of American library. It supplies traditional hand tools, digital manufacturing toolssuch as3D printers, open-source software and hardware and other equipment to encouragepeople to exchange experiences, teamwork, create their own information products, andemphasizes the dominant position of people in the information creation. This type of servicecan not only innovative library services, to improve the level of library services, and has theability to enhance the core competitiveness, makerspace in library is a kind of innovativeforms of service.This paper firstly analysis the connotation of maker and makerspace,recalls the history ofthe rise of the background and development of makerspace, and analyses the value ofmakerspace and meaning of makerspace service in library deeply.At the basis of thesetheories, makes a lot of investigation of both research statues and the actual developmentsituation of makerspace in domestic and internation libraries.The paper takes the typicalmakerspace in the public and university library and “create new space” in Shanghai Library asan example, makes a detailed analysis of their construction,and demonstrates the feasibility ofcreating a makerspace in our library.At last,at the basis of the successful experience increating makerspace in the domestic and foreign libraries, the paper summarizes the principlesto be followed to build, patterns, obstacles and problems should be notes,providing someconstructive comments to build makerspace in our libraries.
