As the electromagnetic pulse technology has been more and more widely used in military andcivilian fields, an electromagnetic pulse radiation source is designed in this paper and the threesubsystems of the electromagnetic pulse radiation source: Marx generator, bipolar pulse forming lineand high-power UWB antenna are studied. Furthermore, these three subsystems are designed andtested, and good results are obtained. The main contents are as follows:(1)Firstly, a three-step self-breakdown Marx generator is designed. The protection resistor,charging resistor and storage capacitor of the Marx generator are optimized. And then, wemanufacture the Marx generator and test the output voltage wave on50-load when the chargingvoltage is10kv. The test result is consistent with simulation data.(2)And then, the bipolar pulse forming line is investigated. The effect of close time(Tclose),transmission time(Ttran) of switch and delay time(TD) of pulse forming line on the output bipolarpulse are studied in detail. The coaxial form of chopping-peaking type bipolar pulse forming line isdesigned and tested. And then, the pulse forming line is combined with Marx generator, themeasured result coincides with simulated data, which verified the prototype of the system andassociated component.(3)Further more, based on the research on the pulsed power source, a TEM horn antenna withcompensation structure is designed with the principle of compact and small size, and the detailed S11,pattern etc. are simulated and measured. As a result, a complete electromagnetic pulse radiationsource is realized.Based on the simulated and test results,the electromagnetic pulse radiation source can beachieved.
