NetMagic is a programmable switching platform oriented innovative experimentsand teaching design of network technology. Researchers can program FPGA inside theNetMagic platform and design relevant experiments according to research needs. Toreduce the complexity of the hardware develOpment, NetMagic defined thespecifications of UM(User Module), and researchers simply need to achieve hardwarelogic of the relevant experiments according to UM interface. While tasks like packetreceiving and transmitting, the access control of memory interface and control packetParsing can reuse the existing code which was pre-designed and tested out rigorously.The network measurement is one of the core contents of internet technologyresearch. To effectively support the functions as data capture and filter in networkmeasurement, we have done related researches and designed N-Probe (NetMagic),based on network measurement probe technology and UM specifications. The mainwork and innovation are as follows:(1) For the needs of the network probe of network measurement, the thesis putsforward to the network measurement probe program based on Netmagic. It includes aglobal scheme for UM-based N-probe hardware implementation, a regular flow filterdesign, a controlling software scheme and an application interface etc.(2) N-Probe is achieved on the NetMagic platform. The thesis offers concretedesign of UM internal modules, including data structure, key state machine design andinterface waveform design etc. Besides, it carefully analyzes such problems as thesupported rule numbers in look-up tables, table look-up performance, and resourceutilization efficiency.(3) Based on the achieved N-Probe, it achieves a prototype demonstrationenvironment for streaming media transmission quality monitor. By capturing andanalyzing certain video streams, we can calculate and analyze MDI (Media DeliveryIndex) parameter of streaming media transmission quality. In addition, the thesis alsoanalyzes other scenarios of N-Probe.In summary, based on UM hardware develOpment model of NetMagic, the thesismanages to design the network measurement probe named N-Probe. Which not onlyprovides the regular data-capturing and analyzing function, but also supports variousnetwork experimental scenarios, all of those above plays a significant role in promotingapplication of NetMagic in network innovation.
