With the development of society, the private colleges and universities improve the educational level and enhance the competitiveness and viability in the field of education by improving the hardware facilities, strengthening the construction of campus culture and other measures. However, weak reputation, difficult enrollment and other issues are the problems that the private colleges face. The performance management applied on private colleges by Educational administrative departments has an important influence on the development of private universities. Therefore, it is important to find out the problems of the performance management.Based on questionnaires and other methods, the status of performance management applied on private colleges by Sichuan Educational administrative departments was studied. Firstly, the relevant concepts were defined. The concept of private colleges was defined, the difference between private colleges and public universities was described, the relationship between education administrative departments and private colleges was analyzed, and the concept of performance management was introduced, respectively.Then the status of performance management applied on private colleges by Sichuan Educational administrative departments was investigated. The questionnaire was designed based on the Likert Scale. The questionnaires were allotted to teachers and students of Sichuan Top IT Vocational Institute, Chengdu Neusoft University, Sichuan University of Media and Communications, Sichuan Tianyi University based on stratified sampling method. 200 valid questionnaires were recovered from each school.Then the questionnaires were analyzed by using SPSS. Subject validity, reliability and validity analysis were conducted which found that all the subjects of the questionnaire had discrimination, and the survey results were stable and consistent. Then the overall evaluation on the performance management applied on private colleges by Sichuan Educational administrative departments was analyzed, and it was derived that 31% of people surveyed gave poor evaluation on the performance management. Further investigation on the cause was for those people, which found 46.57% of them believed that the little effect of the performance management caused the poor evaluation on the performance management. In addition, the factors affecting the effect of performance management applied on private colleges by educational administrative departments were analyzed. Based on the data analysis, the problems and the reasons of the performance management were analyzed.Finally, the upgrade proposals on the performance management applied on private colleges by Sichuan Educational administrative departments were proposed. The proposals included strengthening the participation of private colleges in the process of performance planning, strengthening the performance coaching communication for private colleges, strengthening the implementation of performance assessment, strengthening the applications of the results of performance, strengthening the feedback and improvement of performance management.
