With the leaping development of higher education in China from elite education to popular education, as well as the increasing number of students in agricultural colleges and universities, teachers are relatively lacking. Large quantities of young teachers enter agricultural colleges and universities and become the main force of the teachers. As the main force of the teaching team, young teachers’teaching abilities are closely related to not merely the teaching quality, talent training quality, and the future development of agricultural colleges, but also the effective advance of socialist countryside construction. Consequently, research on the training of young teachers in agricultural colleges is particularly significant.In this thesis, questionnaire surveys and interviews were conducted among students, managers and teachers from five agricultural colleges in different levels, including Huazhong Agricultural University, Sichuan Agricultural University, Henan Agricultural University, Hunan Agricultural University and Shanxi Agricultural University. The present situation of young teachers’teaching abilities and their training is as follows:they have sound professional knowledge, while they are relatively lack of educational knowledge; they identify with the occupation of teachers, while their dedication to work is meager; their teaching methods are advanced, while their teaching skills are not that comprehensive; training measures are taken, while cultivation mechanism is not improved enough. According to the survey and analysis, the main causes of the problem for young teachers’ teaching abilities consist of objective factors and subjective factors. The objective factors refer to the influence of unhealthy thoughts on young teachers, lack of government’s lead and no supply of good environment for teaching ability training. In addition, the subjective factors refer to shortage of young teachers’teaching experiences, weak awareness of their own development and so on.On the basis of the general rules of young teachers’teaching ability training, higher agricultural colleges should aim at cultivating talents for serving issues about agriculture, rural areas and farmers, according to colleges’own features and characteristics. Moreover, higher agricultural colleges should constantly promote young teachers’teaching ability from the aspects like helping young teachers locate their roles, improving young teachers’own abilities and creating better platform for young teachers’ development.
