With the development of Human science and technology, it constantly subversive many industries and fields, the development of Internet technology is also promoting the change and development of all walks of life. However, the development of science and technology has no effect in the field of education, tracing the history of science and technology, we will find that any technology including the emergence of radio technology and the invention of television or the emergence of personal computers didn’t change education. People have been hoping these technologies promote the reform of education, but they are in failure changing education finally. The continuous development of Internet technology and terminal equipment spawned MOOC, people have the same hope that the MOOC can change the education as previous. It is worthy to be discussed that the arrival of the MOOC whether can realize people’s expectations.This paper firstly explains introduce the definition of MOOC, briefly introduces the development history and current situation of the development of MOOC, summarizes the five characteristics of MOOC and its characteristics.Then this study attempts to analyzed the characteristics of MOOC teaching mode and university traditional teaching mode by comparison, then elaborated the opportunities and challenges of university in the era of MOOC. At last the study put forward the strategies that university deal with these opportunities and challenges of MOOC.Introduction illustrate research background, research at home and abroad, then introduce the research content of this paper and research method.The paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter analyzes the characteristics of the MOOC teaching mode and the traditional university teaching mode, University is faced with many opportunities. The diversity of teaching method is helpful to optimize the teaching process, improve the quality of university teaching; teaching organization form of MOOC is flexible, which is conducive to make more people accept the university education, to expand the university’s influence. The use of network and multi-media technology in MOOC is helpful to reduce the learners’ learning cost and to achieve educational equity; the thought of MOOC is around a center of teacher and learner, which provide solving ideas for de-administration in higher education.The second chapter analyzes university faces major challenges include that intensified the formation of the center university and the peripheral university, university functions has been questioned, and the role of university teachers need to transform in the era of MOOC.The third chapter mainly elaborates the university should be how to deal with MOOC. This chapter give some advices in order to deal with the opportunities and challenges. These advices have to introduce the MOOC into university courses, to take various measures to improve the quality of university teaching, to strengthen the function of examination authority and research institute of university, to keep the university spirit which play a unique role in development of the university, to guide the university teachers to participate in the MOOC, which is contribute to them grasping the method of online learning, changing the concept of teacher’s role. These advices and measures can improve the condition of university.
