Being one of the world first-class sport, football has long been receiving worldwide attention. China is not an exception. Currently, national policy and support have been strengthened so as to popularize football among the people and school students. Although the level of football in our country in the international arena is relatively backward, people’s keen interest on the soccer tournament, particularly foreign football tournament, never fades away. The primary way for people to obtain foreign football news is the edits of domestic network media on news foreign football website. Great editing can bring pleasurable reading experience to everyone, further, raise people’s interest and attention in football, and gradually help to encourage more people to participate in football actively. With people’s fully participation, national physical quality would be thoroughly improved. Today, in the era of the Internet, as the pace of life is getting speedy and the network information is becoming fragmented so that people tend to read the title for everything, people’s first concern is reading headlines about football news, thus the translation and reproduction of news headline is especially important. From three different perspectives of translation, rhetoric and the editing of network news headlines, this essay focuses on the translation and production of the foreign football news headlines, based on the title translation and production of the newspaper’s Website of United Kingdom and Spain edited by four major domestic portals (SINA, NetEase, Tencent and Sohu).By looking up the primary documents, this essay summarizes the study results of football news title translation, and in a larger sense, the sports news translation from three different perspectives. Through information collecting method, on the other hand, this essay compiles 140 groups of practical football news title translation instances and analyzed them by using case analysis method. At last, this essay derives the problems and strategies for domestic network media to pay attention to while translating and editing foreign football news headlines, supported with theoretical argumentation based on relevant knowledge of communication studies through summarizing method.From the perspective of translation, this essay mainly analyzes the practical use of communicative translation theory in football news title translation and reproduction by case study, and then offers specific policies, such as additional background information, attention on objective facts, precise use of words, avoiding ambiguity, objective position, etc. Otherwise, this essay offers theoretical argumentation according to multi-cultural communication theory.From the perspective of rhetoric, this essay analyzes the usage of rhetoric in the translation and editing of football news headlines combined with specific examples, and then offers specific policies, such as attention to authenticity, using rhetoric to a certain extent, avoiding excessive use of rhetoric, considering the audience’s ability of comprehending. Otherwise, this essay offers theoretical argumentation according to the effect of mass-media communication.From the perspective of editing network news headlines, the abnormal phenomena and the related reasons occur in the procedure of the online football news title translating are analyzed in this essay through cast analysis. Furthermore, some principles to be followed in future practice have been elicited.Finally, the conclusions and recommendations are given from three perspectives:network editors, readers and society, so as to produce the best reading experience to the mass, receive the best broadcasting effect for football news, raise people’s attention to soccer, and participate in the game, hence to achieve the ultimate purpose of fitness and improving national health quality.
