Because of the Crimean and Scottish referendum events in the principle of national self-determination once again become the focus in the field of international. In fact, nation-states once to form, self-determination followed. Some national or regional to national self-determination as a weapon to obtain an independent international political position, and this kind of situation the existing structure of the international community and even for the future of international politics will be unexpected effects. In addition, in recent years, some western countries always in support of national self-determination movement cover for interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, which causes serious damage to the other country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. And the international law always double standard, because of the pressure of international political performance in the principle of international law for political needs at any time make different interpretations. As a basic principle of international law. national self-determination scope should be how to set? Is "home country allows " the legal premise of "self-determination"? The legitimacy of the "self-determination" and "the inviolability of sovereignty" when there are conflicts, take what? How to prevent self-determination abuse by separatists?This article has four parts, respectively is:a, Crimea, Scottish referendum events; Second, the national sovereignty and national self-determination; Three legal quagmire, self-determination; Fourth, ethnic separatist sentiment. This paper for the analysis of the Crimean and Scottish referendum justness or not on the basis of analysis the conflict between sovereignty principle and principle of national self-determination, the genesis and development of ethnic separatism and separation motion response, national self-determination and discussed the principles of international law in nowadays in the field of international scope of application and should be in what form, in order to explore the safeguard it is not about international politics and play the role as an international law basic principle in the right way.
