At that time, scholars carried over Han Dynasty’s Confucianism tradition of archaic language notes, left rich annotation legacies including historical literature, military science, poetry, mathematics and so on. Among those annotations, the most distinguished ones are dialect materials which laid solid foundation of Chinese lexicology. In this regard, the paper focused on dialect words in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties’annotations. From dialect words and dialect geography point of view, this paper analyzed those historical periods’dialect words. The research about dialect words mainly located in the second chapter, the third chapter and the fifth chapter.First of all, the second chapter this paper gave a general review on dialect words’judgment, levels and grammatical meaning. Then analyzed Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties’ scholars’ interpretation of dialect words, including interpretation method (describe traits, define words, presume causes, examine original views, etc.), interpreted terminology and explicate characteristics. Then, the third chapter this paper discussed dialect words’ lexical meaning, including syllable structure, word formation, acceptation category, part of speech, etc.Next, the fifth chapter this paper analyzed dialect words in a diachronic way, where a detailed time line is established, and dialect words’ active zones shifting (dialect words shift to common language, dialect words spread to other zones, common language shift to dialect words) and dialect words’ acceptation shifting (overgeneralization, undergeneralization, semantic change, emotion change) are recognized thereafter.
