The theory of postmodern films made a significant impact on Chinese in various art fields since it had been introduced by American Fredric Jameson for the first time in 1980 s. Jameson said that the research on postmodern films is in favor of understanding postmodern art intuitively. Therefore, a concrete analysis of postmodern characteristics of Chinese contemporary films is advantageous in its spreading in filmdom more extensively.The development of postmodern can not reject the double effect what social context and cultural context have proved. The society in China began to transform from the leading political myth to the consumer society which takes commercialization as essence, which provides well social environment for the rise of postmodern films. At that time, popular culture was just stepping to the center of society from the edge, as the cultural monologue was replaced by the clamorous phenomenon, and the transformation of the cultural environment promoted the emerge and development of postmodern films. The features of postmodernism and development of Chinese contemporary films are deeply analyzed in the article by reference to the part of postmodern theory by Jameson. In the article, postmodern films in China are presented and summarized using the films with typical postmodern elements as materials through depth disappearance of text creation, unique handling of the fabric of space-time, parody of film elements and termination of individualism. Besides, the article evaluates the potential of postmodern films and provides some rationalized suggestions for the present dilemma. Above all, the article is devoted to deepening and promoting the general analysis of postmodern films.
