"Golden Lotus"is a landmark in the history of works of fiction, but rarely it has been adapted. This article is going to talk about its method of adaptation from the sele ction of plot, character setting and positioning, adaptation of certain details etc.. We’ll also be looking at author’s biography and the social background back in that time and find out how they interpret and digest the work. Hopefully this article can contribute t o the study of "Gold Lotus" and make more people interested. The article is divided in to three parts:In the first chapter, we’ll be studying Ao Qier from Bian Ruyuan. First we’ll look at his family, life story and famous works to get an idea of what was his life like. The n we’ll look further into Ao Qier and analyze the cause of this work from its theme, an:alyzing the artistic achievements of the work with plot setting and character combined with investigation in his life.In the second chapter, we will be comparing it with "Golden Lotus" for a better understanding of how the work is adapted, then we’ll combine the theme of the work a nd find out what the author’s cause might be. Lastly, we’ll be studying the characters i n the legend Qi Suanji and figure out how they build characters. In the third chapter, we’ll look at the only copy of "Golden Lotus" and find out more a bout the life story of the author and its plot setting.In the fourth chapter, we’ll take a closer look at two kinds of rare copies of "Gold en Lotus" in the Fu Xihua Ancient Drama collection and figure out their relations in b etween, at the same time put the chapters in order with the reference of "Golden Lotus " and"Shuihu"...
