The Concept of "Causality Retribution" has existed in the ancient Chinese fictions for a long time. It has a strong sense of consciousness and moral values and it mixed the causal Buddhism and Taoism together, which generated a new, unique Chinese concept of karma. The distinctive function of karma is produced when it was used, as a motif, in Chinese ancient novels creation process. It made the text conform the temporal social historical value, no matter in the theme of the story or the plot of the novel model. At the end of Ming Dynasty, the power of the citizen is growing, a new way of thinking and moral orientation is quickly re-established after a series of changes. At that time, literature which can reflect the people’s ideal and life appears and the Concept of "Causality Retribution" as a motif element is introduced to the vernacular short stories’creation. This period which makes creative subject and the plot model construction, not only shows the special atmosphere of late Ming dynasty society, but also makes the construction of Causality Retribution has a unique era characteristics.In this paper, used the theory of Motif Thematology and Narrative to study vernacular short stories in the late Ming period,analyzes the karma of the story theme, narrative plot mode, that is unique characteristics that karma Motif as basic semantic elements, narrative elements, integrates into the retribution story in late Ming Dynasty to present. According to the above theories, for the strong ability of independent existence and succession in the historical heritage,a certain motif which in narrative story can be able to work free from a work to the other work, and repeated in different texts; in different combinations, the basic plot of the backbone will not change, but in some respects may be have differences.From narrative plot model for the study of the starting point, aim at exploring the karma combination’s characteristics and causal difference with the previous generation of retribution stories in literature in the story of the late Ming period vernacular short stories.This paper discusses the late Ming period vernacular short stories" karma theme and the narrative plot patterns in the following aspects:The first chapter introduces the cause of the vernacular short stories of karma story in late Ming dynasty, mainly including the cultural narrative factors, external influence and its own development. The second chapter mainly gives a detail account of the Vernacular short novels karma patterns during this period:Safeguard human right, the pursuit of practical interest, the pursuit of emotional desires.It analyzes the manifestation of its characteristics of transformation and inductive the connotation of cultural psychology from the perspective of the theme. The third chapter discusses the plot of karma in vernacular short novels of the late Ming dynasty, the main process is divided into linear model, spatiality rebirth and reunion mode, and from the aesthetic and space-time, constructive and characters to illustrate the karma of the story’s narrative plot model of literary features.
