Objective: To investigate association between cardiovascular risk factors with the incidence of type 2 diabetes in elderly.Method: Four hundred seventy nine hospitalized elderly patients with type 2 diabetes diagnosed firstly by standard 75 g oral glucose tolerance and insulin release test were collected retrospectively and analyzed as compared with 183 glucose regulation impairment and 62 normal subjects. Results: Body mass index, resting heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglyceride, fatty liver, fibrinogen degradation products, carbohydrate antigen 19-9 were higher significantly in the diabetes group than that in the glucose regulation impairment group and normal group(P < 0.05). Regression analysis found that only body mass index was associated significantly with insulin resistence and sensitivity index including HOMA, LogHOMA, HOMA-1, QUICKI and ISI0,120 in the diabetes group(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Body mass index is associated significantly with the incidence of type 2 diabetes in elderly. Elevated body mass index can predict independently the increased risk of incident type 2 diabetes in elderly. |
