| Objective : We assessed serum 25(OH)D3 in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, in order to find the association between the vitamin D with disease activity and bone mineral density of JIA.Methods:We evaluated 76 patients(36 females,40 males,Mean age was 8.49± 3.09 years) that fulfilled the 2011 ILAR criteria for juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Patients underwent laboratory tests of serum25(OH)D3, plasma parathyroid hormone, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry examination. JIA patients were categorized as having active disease or inactive disease by ACR standard in 2011,and measured the disease activity by using JADAS-27.We analyzed the relationship between serum 25(OH)D3 level and other index. Results : The mean serum 25(OH)D3 level of 76 JIA patients is21.1±6.1ng/ml. Vitamin D deficiency was detected in 39 patients(50.6%)and insufficiency in 29 patients(37.7%).Patients with active disease had significantly reduced serum 25(OH)D3 levels compared to patients with inactive disease(p < 0.005),but there is no significant association betweenserum 25(OH)D3 level and JADAS-27.JIA patients with Vitamin deficiency showed a significantly lower bone mineral density than those with normal 25(OH)D3 level(p < 0.001). Patients using glucocorticoid show significantly lower 25(OH)D3 level than those never used glucocorticoid(p < 0.001).Conclusion:JIA patients have reduced serum 25(OH)D3, particularly those with active disease or/and using glucocorticoid.Serum 25(OH)D3affects the bone mineral density. |
