Overweight/obesity has become a major worldwide health threat.Obesity is closly related with a series of metabolic disease, and it is one of the major causing and promoting factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus.Conventional medicines used to treat diabetes, such as insulin,sulfonylureas,non-sulfonylureas and thiazolidinedione, inevitably cause weight gain during the treatment. But overweight will aggravate insulin resistance and glucose intolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, which is unacceptable for most of the patients and therapists. The novel antidiabetes drugs of incretin such as dipeptidyl peptidase-4(DPP-4)inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)receptor agonists, are capable of ideal glycemic control with weight neutral or even weight reduction effect, providing new option for type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment, especially for the obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
