ObjectiveWith the growing aging society, Alzheimer’s disease is gradually becoming a serious social problem. Dementia is a kind of chronic, integrated brain disease, which is characterized by a progressive form of dementia, including memory, learning, orientation, language, comprehension and judgment. The statistics, in all patients with dementia, the most common is Alzheimer’s disease, this section of the Meta-analysis evaluation of natural cholinesterase inhibitor huperzine VAD treatment efficacy and patient safety.MethodWe searched six databases, including three Chinese databases HowNet China (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, CNKI,) knowledge Wanfang Data Services Platform (Wan Fang, WF) and Chongqing VIP-Chinese Science and Technology Journal Full Database (VIP), China Biomedical literature database (China Biology Medicine disc, CBM-disc) two foreign language database search foreign language database:PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed), The Cochrane Library (http://www. cochrane library.com).10 randomized controlled trials were included in the analysis contains a total of 936 subjects, including Hup A treatment group,595,341 in the control group, the main targets of cognitive function (MMSE), the secondary evaluation of activities of daily living (ADL, BI) and adverse reactions (ADR). In "or" connection with category search term to "and" connected to different types of search terms, into the database search Title/Abstract, namely foreign language database search strategy as "huperzine A" and "Alzheimer’s disease" or "Alzheimer" or "dementia "or" Alzheimer’s type ".ResultThe results show HupA improved cognitive function significantly better than piracetam (WMD 1.42,95% CI=0.91-1.93, P<0.00001), and placebo (WMD 5.91,95% CI,4.98-6.84), and donepezil no significant difference (WMD-1.97,95% CI=-5.12-1.53); improving the daily capacity was significantly superior to placebo (WMD-8.57,95% CI=-11.13-5.97), than piracetam (WMD 1.90,95% CI=1.05-2.75), but in ADL was no significant difference with donepezil comparative lack of data, Hup a mild adverse reactions, mainly cholinergic stimulant, but does not affect the treatment, our meta-analysis showed Hup a performance a positive effect on cognitive function and activities of daily living in patients with VaD, and deserves further study.ConclusionHuperzine A for the effect of improving the symptoms of AD patients than placebo and huperzine A, weaker than donepezil.
