Objective:To examine the associalion of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels with arterial stiffness(AS) and left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH)in elderly hypertension patients. Methods:We recruited 150 elderlypatientswith primary hypertension,The degree of arteriosclerosis was investigated with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(BaPWV). Left ventricular massindex(LVMI)was determined according to the Devereux formula. The concentration of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D were measured by using electrochemical luminescencemethod. Based on serum 25-hydroxyvitaminD levels. the patients were divided into two groups. the low 25-hydroxyvitamin D group(<20ug/L)and the high 25-hydroxyvitamin D group(≥20ug/L). Results:Faster BaPWV andlarger LVMIvalues were observed in the low 25-hydroxyvitamin D group as compared with the high 25-hydroxyvitamin D group(1699.93±330.08)cm/s vs. (1318.13±205.67)cm/s; (88.14± 19.72)g/m2 vs.(60.00±20.14)g/m2(t=-6.08,-7.04,respectitively; both P=0.000< 0.01). Multiple liner regression analysis showed that the 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was independently associated with LVMI(p=-0.353,p=0.000<0.01)and BaPWV(p=-0.302, P=0.000< 0.01). Conclusions:Serum 25-hyroxyvitamin Dis independently associated with arterial stiffness, left ventricular hypertrophy. Vitamin D may play an important role in thepathogenesis of arterial stiffness and left ventricular hypertrophy in elderly hypertensionpatients.
