A Preliminary Study On Pharmacognosy Of Six Species Medicinal Plants Of Polygonatum

Objective: To realize the status of medicinal herbs from Polygonatum and evaluate correctly their qualities to ensure the safety of their clinical usages, the resource state of six medicinal plants of Polygonatum in Yunnan and their pharmacognostical properties were investigated.Methods: Resource investigations were conducted by interview investigation and quadrat sampling method. The pharmacognostical study on medicinal plants of Polygonatum were performed by the identification of their sources, characters, microscopies, thin-layer chromatographies and DNA molecules.Results:The resource deposits of Polygonatum plants were related to their growing environments, reproduction capacities and locally environmental protection measures. The pharmacognostical characteristics of six Polygonatum plants were established in this study. In conclusion, the resource state of medicinal plants from Polygonatum in Yunnan is pessimistic. Conclusion: The resource deposits of Polygonatum plants in Yunnan are low, so the resonable conservation and development measures should be established to ensure sustainable development and exploitation of Polygonatum plants. The pharmacognostical characteristics of six Polygonatum plants were established to ensure quality control and resoure development of Polygonatum plants in Yunnan.
