ObjectiveTo discuss the effects of the changes of insulin-like growth factor-1 levels on quality of life and nutritional status in elderly patients.MethodsA total of 120 patients(90 cases of male,30 cases of female, aged 60-95years) were divided into 2 groups according to age:60-79year(the elderly patient group), and over 80 year(the old old patient group) (n-60, each group). Levels of insulin-like growth factor(IGF-1) were detected. The questionnaire (SF-36) and micro-nutrient assessment table (MNA) were conducted.ResultsInsulin-like growth factor was significantly lower in the old old patient group than in the elderly patient group. The 8 health latirude scores of SF-36 scale and nutritional status scores were significantly lower in the old old patient group than in the elderly patient group (P<0.05). Relation analysis showed that age had a negative correlation with insulin-like growth factor level(r-0.305, P<0.05). After adjusting for age, insulin-like growth factor level was positively correlated with physical functioning, role of physical activity, body pain, general health, vitality, mental health, emotional function and nutritional status in SF 36 health scale(all P<0.05), and had no obvious correlation with social function health dimension(P>0.05).ConclusionsThe level of serum IGF-1 in elderly patients was low, and was negatively correlated with age, which can seriously affect the health state and nutritional status in elderly patients.OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of application of human growth hormone (rhGH) combined with recombinant enteral nutrition (EN) on the nutrition and immunity functions of elderly patients with severe pneumonia.METHODS62 elderly patients with severe pneumonia from elderly endocrinology department were randomly divided into experimental group (31 cases) and control group (31 cases). The control group was treated in a conventional manner. Whereas the experimental group was treated by using additional rhGH combined with subcutaneous injection of EN. The levels of prealbumin (PAB), albumin (ALB), hemoglobin (HB), T cells in the experimental group, C-reactive protein(CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and other related indicators of two groups were obtained before and after the treatment, which can be used to evaluate the clinical effect of the respective treatments.RESULTSAfter 14 days of treatments, the serum levels of PAB, ALB, HB and T cells in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The inflammation index was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05).CONCLUSIONSThe therapy of treating the elderly patients with severe pneumonia by using rhGH combined with EN can significantly improve the patients’ nutrition and immunity functions and reduce the inflammation markers so as to improve the curative effect.
