Objectives(1) To explore the effect of vaginal mould to prevent vaginal stenosis in young patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy.(2) To explore the effect of vaginal mould to improve the quality of sexual life in young patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy.(3)To explore the safety and feasibility of using vaginal mould to prevent vaginal stenosis in young patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy.MethodsAccording to inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 110 cervical cancer patients after radiotherapy, who were admitted in Zhejiang Cancer Hospital from January 2014 to June 2014, were invited to participate in the study. After informed consent, enrolled women were randomly assigned to either the control group (n=55) or to the observation group (n=55). The control group patients received routine nursing. In the hospital, nurses undergoing vaginal washing for patients every day. When the patient was discharged from hospital, they need to undergoing vaginal washing by themselves every day.3 months after radiotherapy, encouraged patients to retrieve their sexual life. On the basis of conventional nursing, the observation group patients were instructed to use the specialized vaginal mould to self-dilate vagina at the end of radiotherapy during home phase, not less than three times a week, each expansion lasted 5 minutes, lasted more than one year. The incidence of vaginal stenosis, the degree of vaginal stenosis, the recovery of sexual life and the scores of female sexual function index (FSFI) were evaluated for women in both observation group and control group.ResultsDuring the implementation of the project, this study collected 55 cases in observation group,55 cases in control group, but the observation group lost 6 cases, and the control group lost 5 cases. At last, a total number of 99 young cervical cancer patients were recruited for final analysis,49 cases in the observation group and 50 cases in the control group. The incidence of vaginal stenosis in the observation group was 22.45%, which was grade I vaginal stenosis. The incidence of vaginal stenosis in control group was 60.00%, of which grade I were 30.00% and grade II were 30.00%. The difference between the observation group and the control group was significant (P<0.05). At 12 months after the end of radiotherapy, the retrieve of sexual life rate in the observation group was 81.64%while the control group was 54.00%, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The sexual life recovery time of patients in the observation group was 9.24 ± 2.57 months after radiotherapy, and the control group was 9.78±3.11 months after radiotherapy. There was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05). The sexual life of the patients in the observation group was 3.00±1.90 times per month, the control group was 1.62±1.87 times per month, the two groups were significantly different (P<0.05). The total score of FSFI in the observation group was 18.163±8.795, and the control group was 12.740±8.389, and there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). There were no complications associated with the use of moulds occurred in the process of the use of the mould.Conclusions(1) Young cervical cancer patients after radiotherapy using vaginal mould can effectively reduce the occurrence rate of vaginal stenosis.(2) Young cervical cancer patients after radiotherapy using vaginal mould can promote to recover their sexual life, and improve the quality of sexual life.(3) It is safe and feasible to use vaginal mould to prevent vaginal stenosis in young patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy.
