Objective To investigate the dynamic change of plasma osmotic pressure and its relationship with intracranial pressure(ICP), cerebral perfusion pressure(CPP) and the prognosis in the patients after craniotomy with traumatic brain injury(TBI). Methods A retrospective analysis was taken for 59 inpatients after craniotomy with TBI during May 2012 to August 2010. The plasma osmotic pressure,ICP and CPP were determined 5 days after the craniotomy in all the patients. The relationship of plasma osmotic pressure with ICP, CPP and the prognosis was analyzed. Results Plasma osmotic pressure was negatively correlated with ICP (P<0.05), and positively correlated with CPP (P<0.05). The level of plasma osmotic pressure was significantly higher in the patients with poor prognosis than the patients with good. Conclusions There are inner relation between plasma osmotic pressure, ICP and CPP in patients after craniotomy with TBI. The detection of plasma osmotic pressure level, ICP and CPP may be helpful to evaluating diseases condition, predicting prognosis and to the treatment in the patients after craniotomy with TBI.
