| Object and SignificanceWith a clinical study of removing the lower eyelid’s wrinkles by giving microneedles to work on the underlying of the mesoblast of these wrinkles, this article is to observe the clinical efficacy and safety of the microneedle therapy, and to initially discuss its timeliness and mechanism, as well as summing up an effective acupuncture therapy and its proper intervening time. Also, we hope to get a welcomed set of treatment with curative efficacy, convenient operation, and reasonable price. Finally, we could confirm the advantage of wrinkle-removing therapy by acupuncture, and lay foundation to further studies.MethodsDuring the process of the study, we recruited 83 eligible patients. The treatment group were given local treatment with microneedle and body acupuncture by different methods, and the needle depth into their lower eyelids was the mesoblast (superficial dermal layer). Consisting of two subgroups with 29 patients respectively, the first subgroup of the treatment group received equably short-needle therapy on the lower eyelid, and the second received treatment of longer-needle into deeper wrinkles.25 members of the control group had no treatment. Patients of all groups received two treatment courses. We made observations and scores before and after every courses about changes of degree of lower eyelid’s wrinkles and their ranges, the length of deeper wrinkles, sagging degree of skin over the lower eyelid and TCM symptoms including complexion, diet, sleep patterns, urination and defecation. Follow-ups were conducted in day 7,15 and 30 after the two-course therapy respectively with scores based on the above aspects. Finally, statistical analysis and evaluation of clinical efficacy.ResultsThe two subgroups of the trial group had three and two recruited patients dropped out respectively, the control group no members dropped out.1. After the first therapy course, the reducing index of wrinkles of treatment subgroup one was 0.10±0.36, subgroup two 0.18±0.10, and the control group 0.00±0.18. When the therapy courses were over, the reducing index of wrinkles of treatment subgroup one was 0.60±0.26, subgroup two 0.63±0.23, and the control group 0.05±0.16.2. Comparisons before and after treatment within each group were as follows: changes of lower eyelid’s wrinkles in the treatment subgroups equalized significant differences of P<0.05, while the control group opposite; in TCM symptoms, all in the treatment subgroups showed remarkable differences as well as the complexion, and other indexes presented P>0.05. Between each group, changes of lower eyelid’s wrinkles and TCM symptoms in the treatment group versus the control group had results of P< 0.05. Comparisons in urination and defecation between the two treatment subgroups was of significant differences, while other indexes between the two subgroups manifested opposite results.3. Comparisons of the reducing indexes of wrinkles between day 7 and the moment after all courses of therapy had no significant differences, while comparisons between any other latter timing and the day when all courses of therapy was over presented P>0.05. Those in the control group also had no significant differences.4. After therapy, apparent and effective rates of treatment subgroup one were 50% and 92.3% respectively; those of the second treatment subgroup were 59.26% and 92.5%, and the control group 0% and 8%. There was significant difference in apparent and effective rates between the two main groups. Comparisons in apparent rate and effective rate between the two subgroups of treatment was P>0.05 and P <0.05 respectively.ConclusionTo some extent, daily care is effective on the reducing of wrinkles but not very remarkable. Therapy to reduce lower eyelid’s wrinkles with acupuncture therapy on mesoblast is typical of remarkable effectiveness and performs well in improving other symptoms. That is, acupuncture is more effective than daily care, and therapy with long needle over the deeper wrinkles performs better than that with equably short needle. At the same time, the efficacy is better after the course of treatment group is prolonged properly. Also, the efficacy came down in 7 to 15 days after the ending of the treatment with acupuncture, and the timeliness is no longer than one month. Therefore, effectiveness is maintained by doing more acupuncture therapies within 7 to 15 days after treatment. |
