Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a common functional intestinal disorder in clinic. Although a great deal of studies have been carried out in this area, the mechanism of IBS is not completely understood. The intestine of IBS doesn’t exhibit morphological or biochemical abnormalities. But recently, more and more studies indicate that various immune cells, for instance mast cell, are abnormal in the amount and function, which result in persistent low-grade inflammation. Mast cell plays an important role in IBS. In this article, we briefly summarize the pathogenesis of mast cell in terms of low-grade inflammation in irritable bowel syndrome.
