Cyclic Cushing’s syndrome (CCS) is a rare type of Cushing’s syndrome (CS). The causes of CCS include pituitary tumor, adrenal tumor or hyperplasia, ectopic ACTH syndrome et al. CCS is considered to be far more rare, its prevalence is likely to be underestimated, since it is easily overlooked. The pathogenesis of CCS is not fully clear at present, only some hypothetical theory.CCS is characterized by repeated episodes of cortisol excess interspersed by periods of normal cortisol secretion. The cycle length is differ, clinical manifestations can be either fluctuating or permanent. The fluctuating clinical manifestations and discrepant biochemical findings make CCS extremely hard to diagnose. In this paper, the potential pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and therapy of CCS will be reviewed in detail.
