Spinal vascular malformation(SVM) is rare nervous vascular disease, which mainly presented with progressive myelopathy. The important pathogenesis of SVM are venous hypertension, abnormal vascular compression, venous rupture, intravascular thrombosis, which result in motor deficits, sensory disturbances, micturition problems, erectile dysfunction and so on. The clinical symptoms and signs are nonspecific, so it is particularly difficult to diagnose and the misdiagnosis rate is high. Today, in order to improve the understanding of clinicans and early diagnose it,we explore the misdiagnosed causes of SVM.Objective:To explore misdiagnosed causes of SVM.Methods:22 patients with spinal vascular malformation were retrospectivly analyzed.Results:9 cases had been misdiagnosed for myelitis,7 cases for the spinal demyelinating disease or multiple sclerosis(MS),6 cases for degenerative disease of the spine,2 cases for intracranial spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH),1 case for spinal tumors,1 case for subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord(SCD),1 case for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy(CIDP),1 case for peripheral neuropathy, and 1 case for myopathy, respectively, in 22 patients with SVM.Conclusion:The main causes of misdiagnosis for SVM are insufficient recognition of multiformities for onste style, clinical manifestation and radiological characteristics, un-detailed history, careless physical examination and incommodious thoughts for clinical diagnose and treatment.
