There are 22 acuPoints named as “Men(Gate,门)” in the collaterals and meridians of the human body which are a grouP of acuPoints that cover the largest ProPortion in naming system. This research took Gate acuPoints as research objects. By tracing to naming, location of meridian, the anatomical features and functions and other asPects in the Philology method, it investigated their meaning, Physiological functions, clinical effects and the relationshiPs with surrounding acuPoints as well as revealing their traditional cultural connotations in order to Provide thoughts for the outlook on human body.This research has found: 1. The overwhelming majority of Gate acuPoints match with the ancient features of Gates which are adjacent to acuPoints named after Gong, Fu, Ting, Leng, Que. Some Gate acuPoints are between the acuPoints in the same meridian and some of them are named from the anatomical characteristics of human body, which can be concluded as the adjacency of acuPoints in meridians. 2. Due to the various Positions in different meridians, the 22 Gate acuPoints have the functional features of being in charge of oPening and closing, governing hiding and removing masses and disPelling dePression based on the fundamental characteristics of Gate including Passing and Protection. 3. The naming of Gate acuPoints at the extremities is closely related to their anatomical characteristics and the main feature of them is in the Position of arteries beating. 4. Yun Men and Chong Men are the Gates between the body and limbs, which reflects the acuPoint basis for the theory of SPleen Governing Extremities. 5. Hun Men, Po Men, Shen Tang,Yi She, Zhi Shi on the back are five acuPoints for the transPortation and transformation of essence,Qi, sPirit of five Zang organs, which is the acuPoint foundation for the theory of five Zang organs hiding the sPirit. 6. Mingmen acuPoint is the location of the gate of vitality on human body, which is the reflection of Qi from the gate of vitality on the body surface.
