[Objective] (1)To investigate the current oral health status of 5-year-old children of Guandu district in Kunming.(2)To obtain the data of oral health knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of the parents and children and analysis the relations of some possible impact factors, thus to provide scientific basis for the establishment of oral health care policies of Guandu district in Kunming.(3)To Provide epidemiological basis for monitoring and evaluation oral health status of 5-year-old children of Guandu district in Kunming and longitudinal studies in the future.[Methods] According to the "Third National Oral Health Investigation Guideline", a sample of 1219 5-year-old children from 10 streets 20 kindergartens of Guandu district in Kunming were selected with the methods of whole flock, simple random sampling were used, and all of their parents completed the questionnaires. The results were analyzed using EpiData3.1and SPSS 19.0 software package in which t-test,chi-square test, single variable analysis. The significant positive factors in single variable analysis were further processed as independent variables when the presence of caries set as dependent variable, in a multivariate unconditional logistic regression model.[Results](1) Dental caries status of 5-year-old childrenThe prevalence of dental caries of primary teeth in 5-year-old children was 80.56%, the mean dmft was 5.31±4.54,filled teeth accounted for 2.56%,the mean dmfs was 9.91±11.35,filled teeth surfaces accounted for 4.42%.There was no statistical significance in the prevalence, dmft and dmfs between male and female. There was no statistical significance in the prevalence and dmfs between rural and urban areas children, but there was significant geographic divergences of the mean dmft for the whole observed group between rural and urban areas(P<0.05).The prevalence, dmft were higher than that of the third national oral health survey in 5-year-old children(P<0.05).(2) Oral hygiene status of 5-year-old childrenThe oral hygiene of 5-year-old children:DI-S 1.42±4.68.There were no statistical significance between gender, rural and urban areas.(3) Dental caries impact factors of 5-year-old childrenWhen the dental caries was taken as the dependent variable and the total of 11 positive factors in single variable analysis taken as independent variables, the results from a multivariate logistic regression model showed that the parents’educational level, frequency of consumption of desserts, interval of visiting the dentist, parents view about fluoride can prevention of dental caries are associated with the primary tooth caries.[Conclusion] (1)Guandu district in Kunming is a new urbanization area.In this area dental caries status of 5-year-old children was serious, but the filled tooth rate was very low. Most of the children lacked of the knowledge about oral health care. The government should increase investment for oral health promotion and oral health education.(2)Multivariate logistic regression analysis dental caries in 5-year-old children showed that parents with a positive dental attitude and better dental knowledge will probably build up better oral health habits in their children and look after the children’s oral health.(3)Prevention of dental caries in children should be integrate control with culturing scientific dietary habits and oral hygiene habits from childhood.Strengthening dental care guidance for parent and using topical fluoride can prevent caries effectively.
