ObjectiveStroke is a serious threat to human life and health currently,with a high incidence, high morbidity and mortality rate. The occurrence of stroke is associated with multiple risk factors. And the prevalence of stroke and its risk factors are different in each area.To investigate the prevalence and the risk factors of stroke among residents aged over 40 years old in communities in Chongqing, to provide the basis for the secondary prevention.MethodsA cross-sectional survy was adopted in population above 40 years old in Daping and Qixinggang community of Yuzhong District.The residents’ s characteristics of height, weight,culture and the exposure rate to common risk factors of stroke were analysed.ResultsA total of 4001 cases were under investigated,3188 cases data were integrity and met the inclusion criteria.Exposure rates of hypertension,diabetes,obesity,family history of stroke,history of TIA,atrial fibrillation, lack of sport,dyslipidemia,or smoking overweight in males were 38.28%、11.22%、7.22%、10.27%、7.67%、8.37%、23.51%、18.38% and35.17%,and in females 34.48%、10.63%、7.13%、13.86%、9.24%、10.45%、27.26%、21.48% and 2.11%respectively.Males were superior in the aspect of BMI and the level of education compared to females. The prevalence of hypertension, smoking in males were higher than females,and the prevalence of dyslipidemia, lack of sport,family history of stroke and atrial fibrillation in males were lower than females. There were no difference between males and females related to other risk factors such as diabetes, obesity, history of TIA.The standardized prevalence of stroke was 2402.17/ 100 thousands, with male higher that in the female.ConclusionThe standardized prevalence of stroke is 2402.17 / 100 thousand in Chongqing community among the population above 40 years of age,and,hypertension has the highest exposure rate among all the risk factors and obesity has the lowest exposure rate.
