Objective: To evaluate the clinical application of IOLMaster500 by comparing with contact A-scan, auto-keratometer and ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) in measurements for ocular axial length, corneal curvature, corneal diameter, anterior chamber depth and postoperative mean absolute refractile error(MARE).Methods: 102 eyes including 92 age-related cataract patients undergoing cataract surgery with lens implanted in our eye center were used in this study. The ocular axial length,corneal curvature, corneal diameter and anterior chamber depth were measured preoperatively by IOLMaster500, contact A-scan, auto-keratometer and UBM. Paired t test was used to evaluate the agreement of these instruments. Calculating the intraocular lens by IOLMaster500 and A-scan preoperatively and comparing the postoperative mean absolute refractile error under same IOL power 3 months postoperation.Results:The ocular axial length by IOLMaster500 is(23.63±0.93)mm,and by A-scan is(23.42±0.90)mm,showing significant discrepancy(P < 0.05). The corneal curvature by IOLMaster500 is(43.88±1.43)D,and by auto-keratometer is(43.66±1.45)D, showing significant discrepancy(P < 0.05).The corneal diameter by IOLMaster500 is(11.71±0.34)mm, and by auto-keratometer is(11.34±0.41)mm,showing significant discrepancy(P < 0.05). The anterior chamber depth by IOLMaster500 is(2.91±0.38)mm,and by A-scan and UBM is(2.87±0.38)mm and(2.58±0.41)mm, showing significant difference(P < 0.05). The MARE byIOLMaster500 is(0.88±0.64)D,and by A-scan is(1.14±0.84)D, showing significant difference(P<0.05). The persentage of MARE within ±0.50 diopter by IOLMaster500 is 28.26%,and the persentage by A-scan is 27.09%. There’s no significant difference(?2=0.11,P>0.05). Whereas those within ±1.00 diopter in IOLMaster500 is 66.30%,and by A-scan is 47.82%,significant difference is found(?2=6.41,P<0.05).Conclusion: IOLMaster500 is a safe and reliable instrument for measuring ocular axial length and power calculation of artificial IOL. With high accurary, non-contact and good testing repeatability character, it is easy to be manipulated.
