Purpose:Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG,"Amazingel") is permanent filler which has been used for facial contour correction and soft tissue augmentation for many years. Many studies have shown that complications occur after injecting PAAG This study is the clinical observation of augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection in different periods.Design:Retrospective studyMethods:The study was based on the clinical observation of61female patients who underwent augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection between January2013to September2014.41(67.2%) patients of them had removed PAAG injection and underwent augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants at the same period. The rest of them,20(32.8%) patients underwent the silicone augmentation rhinoplasty after one period of treatment.Result:The patients ranged in age from17to56years. The mean age was26.1years. 49of61patients were not satisfied with the nasal shape or worried about the unknown injection.12patients had complications after injection. The complications had occurred3months to10years after injection with PAAG. The adverse events seen were inflammation reaction (33.3%), abnormality(25.0%), infection(16.7%), nodules(16.7%), and product displacement (8.3%).All of61patient assessed,41patients of them had removed PAAG injection and underwent augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants at the same period(the first group). The rest of them,20patients underwent the silicone augmentation rhinoplasty after one period of treatment (the second group). There were1patient who got inflammation reaction,3patients complicated with hematoma in the first group. The complications of the second group are composed of1postoperative infection,1prosthesis exposure. According to Chi-square test, the number of the patients had complications after augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection in different periods, P=0.97.Whether the complications of PAAG injection or not, the number of the patients had complications after augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection in different periods, P=0.37and P=0.73.Conclusions:According to the number of cases and clinical observation post two weeks augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection in different periods, there was no statistical differences. Whether the complications of PAAG injection or not, the number of the patients had complications post two weeks augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implants after removing polyacrylamide hydrogel injection in different periods, there was no statistical differences between the two periods.
