The Risk Of Cancer About Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy In Adult With Growth Hormone Deficiency:a Meta-analysis

Objective:Adult growth hormone deficiency can lead to adverse phenotypic, metabolic, and quality-of-life features. Growth hormone replacement therapy can effectively improve the above situation. However, the question of whether GH increased the tumorigenesis risk in AGHD patients remained controversial. In order to evaluate the role of GH on tumorigenesis in AGHD patients, a meta-analysis of GH therapy was performed.Methods:Based on the principles and methods of Cochrane systematic reviews, electronic database searches were performed on the PUBMED, Web of Science, Ovid, Cochrane library, CBM, CNKI, Wan fang, and the data from the beginning of the database to March,2015were included. Language restrictions were Chinese and English. Randomized controlled trials and cohort studies involved in GH therapy for AGHD were selected and assessed for the methodological quality, and the extracted data were performed Meta-analysis by statistical software Revman5.0.Results:Eight cohort studies were eligible for meta-analysis,included11106AGHD patients,the average follow-up duration was7.4years.The result shown that the risk of cancer in AGHD patients treated with GH was not higher than the untreated group.The subgroup analysis revealed that there was not significantly increasing risk of cancer in the retrospective study subgroup and the prospective study subgroup.The same outcome was found in the subgroup of sample size≤1000cases and the subgroup of sample size>1000cases.Conclusions:The risk of cancer in AGHD patients treated with GH was not increasing compared with the untreated group.
